Artist Historian - Sean S. McGraw
Artist/Historian Sean S. McGraw has been enchanted by the American Civil War since he was a child. Born in Carrabelle Florida, he grew up further south in Jupiter, FL listening to his families stories about his ancestors on both sides of the conflict. McGraw had ancestors on both sides who fought in the 42nd Georgia, 32nd Georgia CSA, Cobb's Legion (Stephen Rifles) CSA, 35th Georgia CSA, 59th Tennessee (Mounted) CSA, 75th Indiana US, 55th Illinois US, 57th Indiana US, 84th Indiana US, & 26th Ohio US.
Sean's love of history coincided with a propensity towards art and his passion was born. Drawing and painting soldiers and scenes quickly turned to wood carvings of miniature figures. McGraw was lucky to have encouraging parents and family who supported his artistic pursuits. He was able to attend both MSOA and A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts on the merit of his portfolio and artistic abilities. After receiving his BFA on portfolio scholarship in historic Savannah, Georgia at The Savannah College of Art and Design, he was awarded a scholarship from The National Academy of Design and allowed a studio in the historic school/museum at 89th St and 5th Ave in Manhattan.
Today McGraw teaches and works from his Florida studio ever excited about new projects and depictions of history in bronze.
